Brief Comment: Quality of Life on Dialysis

Some encouraging news in the dialysis arena...Dialysis Patient Citizens (DPC) just released some findings from a quality of life survey that they commissioned from Ipsos a market research firm. They asked the question of their members(24,000 dialysis and pre-dialysis patients): How would you rate the quality of care you currently receive at your dialysis facility? The result a surprising mean score of 8.5 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest rating. On the other hand, 20% rated below 7 with 2.1% really unhappy (ie a mean score of 0-2). In their press release they state that the full survey results are available but I haven't been able to get my hands on them. As well, it's surprising that Ipsos, an organization that is quite respected, would release just a fragment of the survey without information on the sample size, who was interviewed, and what else was asked.

Bottom-line: Encouraging to see that dialysis patients seem quite satisfied on dialysis, but before I accept these results as valid, we need to know the sample size of the survey, who they surveyed, what other questions were asked.
